Wordl — the free daily online word game — exploded in popularity and took over the entire universe.
Wordle was sold to the New York Times in January and since moved to NYT website. But it’s still free The Times changed some of the original answers. After the sale, some have feared Wordle could be put behind a paywall from the subscription-based news organization.
If you’re nervous about losing Wordle, don’t panic. You can download the game now to play for free on your computer, phone or tablet forever – or more precisely, until the list of 2,315 Wordle answers expires in October 2027.
Twitter user Aaron Rieke posted a thread explains how to run Wordle entirely in your web browser. Technically, you don’t need internet to play Wordle as all future daily words of the game are included right on the website (even on the NYT). If you download a web archive of Wordle, the game only needs your device’s current date to deliver a new word puzzle every day.
If you want to keep playing Wordle for free, read on to learn how to download Wordle to your computer or smartphone.
If one puzzle a day isn’t enough, try a few Wordle clones like Absurdle and Nerdle or check out every Wordle puzzle ever created in the Wordle archive.
