How Organized Networking Can Help Your Business | News, Sports, Jobs

Organized networking has been around for years, and while it’s changed in many ways, the premise remains the same: bringing people together in one place is just plain good for business and career-building.

The IHK has long been committed to creating opportunities for business people to network. The type of connectivity we enable is primarily business-to-business, but also creates consumer interactions when a company finds another company who could potentially buy their products.

Put simply, networking means making connections. These connections can help grow your business in a number of ways: by generating referrals, gaining awareness of your product or service, and raising your overall business profile. On a personal level, networking can improve your professional skills and confidence.

On a sunny and pleasant evening in Lakewood, the Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host a networking event at Group Ther-Happy, where guests enjoyed special appetizers, a cash bar and mingled in a casual after-work atmosphere . That is the idea behind our Business After Hours Events. We allow each company to present a little bit about who it is and what it does, and we’re always happy to help introduce ourselves to the business people in attendance.

Another Chamber networking event is coming up this week when we present the Business After Hours Beach Bash. Held at the Sunset Bay Beach Club in Irving, this event includes appetizers, happy hour bar prizes, live music and one of the most outstanding views of Lake Erie in Chautauqua County. We hope you will join us for this networking opportunity on the beach on Thursday 9th June. Bring your business cards and take the opportunity to learn about other local businesses while promoting your own.

Chamber member companies can send two people to each Business After Hours event free of charge. The price is only $10 for non-members or for additional members beyond the first two. Be sure to bring business cards and be prepared to give a quick overview of your business so others can get to know you.

The Business After Hours Beach Bash is sponsored by Brooks-TLC Hospital System, AW Farrell & Son, LaBella Associates, M&T Bank, R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Media One Radio Group, OBSERVER and The Post-Journal. Register now online via the Chamberás events calendar.

NOMINATIONS FOR ANNUAL AWARDS ARE NOW OPEN

Each year, the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce presents its Economic Development Award and Person of the Year award during our annual awards banquet, held in October. Over the two decades that these awards have been presented, they have gone to a wide variety of companies, organizations and individuals from all parts of Chautauqua County.

The economic development prize is awarded to companies or organizations that have contributed the most to the economic development, quality of life and stability of our region. This is an award for the entire region.

The Person of the Year award is presented to an individual who meets the following criteria: Recognition from across the region for their outstanding achievements and contributions either in the past year or throughout their lifetime. This is a special person who obviously “stands out” and would be immediately recognized as a leader by the region. Their contribution may be through their efforts in business, community service, political leadership, charity service, or other areas of interest.

You do not have to be a chamber member to be nominated for one of these awards. Nomination forms are now available online via the Chamberás Annual Awards Banquet calendar entry on our web calendar for October 6th. Download the fillable forms, enter the required information, and then email the completed form to Carrie Swanson of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce at [email protected].

If an individual or organization is nominated but not selected, the Chamberás Board will hold those applications for reconsideration in subsequent years.

And save October 6 for the Chamberás Annual Awards Banquet. It’s always a great event!
